Unlock ZTE MF627 3 Mobile Dongle for FREE

Firstly if you do not have one of these dongles then head here to find out how to get one for £4.95

You can only reflash on XP not on Vista or any other operating system!

You now need to download the PDF from here with the instructions and all the software from http://rapidshare.com/files/235523732/ZTE2.rar.html

The instructions will tell you how to reflash* the firmware on your dongle so that it can be used on any network worldwide. It also provides connection software from Telestra (An Australian Mobile Network) which allows you to create profiles for each of the networks you want to use. For each profile you just need the mobile networks access point settings.

The reflash takes about 25 minutes, and make sure your PC does not lose power during the process as it could potential brick your dongle.

* I take no responsibility if you decide to reflash it is your responsibility.

After all that you should now have unlocked your dongle and you are not tied to the three network.

Fantastic!

University of Salford Student’s Union Elections

I wasn’t really going to write about this however Matt’s post over on his work blog has kind of inspired me.

I should really start from the beginning last month I decided to run for the position of Vice President (VP) of the Union.  The old union structure was revamped and this was the first year of the new structure where  the VP’s will be going faculty based.

Campaigning was the hardest part of the election, going round and going to convince people to vote, however I did have the help of some of the presidential candidates (Chris and Victoria).

After about two weeks of campaigning the results were announced on the Thursday evening in Yours Bar and yes I was nervous.  If anyone says they weren’t they are clearly lying; all the positions from President to Trustee were highly contested.

The results overall were;

Ram Bende, Lorna Cole, Adeel Khan and  Vickie Scullard were elected as Trustees.

Joe Kirwin, Jim Dale and Emily Godfry are the other Vp’s

Matt Webber was voted as President (by 16 votes :P)

You can see a picture of all our ugly mugs below.

We don’t start our time in office untill 1 July and I have a million things to do before then, such as find a house for next year and finish my degree.

The last month has been crazy…

Over the last 4 weeks I have turned 21, campaigned in an election and won the election. I also went down to westminsiter to speak at a parlimentry select comittee.

The whole session is online,  I start talking about 57 mins in, and carries on for another 30 minutes.

Time is really flying, before long it will be time to graduate and start the job within the student’s union.

Exciting times ahead!

Spotify + Last.fm + Greasemonkey = AWESOME!

I recently blogged about Spotify and allows you to stream music legally for free!

It is a fantastic service and I recommend you join! One of Spotify’s developers, has come up with a script for Greasemonkey (an addon for Firfox), that allows you to play tracks via spotify from last.fm.

You are thinking last fm already allows you to that, however last. fm does not have as many full tracks as spotify and sometimes only have 30s samples.

All you need is spotify account, last.fm account, firefox, greasemonkey and this addon!

Next time you log in to last. fm you will see the following;

The green music notes are click-able links that open up in spotify, it is truly amazing! If you click on a track name spotify searches for the artist and title and the artist searches for all tracks by that artist!

I recommend you go and download it now :D!

Bluetooth Keyfob that prevents you from losing your phone

Today’s post from Mobile Industry Review.

Jonathan Morris over at What Mobile has written an interesting post about a new gadget that will be hitting the shops early next year!

Bluetooth is useful for many things, but the latest idea could be one of the coolest for some time. A keyfob sized gadget that backs up all your phone data and alerts you if the phone gets too far away.
The i-migo is a clever gadget that isn’t quite ready for sale yet, but should appear in 2009 when discussions take place between various handset manufacturers and network operators.

The idea is simple; the keyfob pairs with the phone and extracts content (contacts, messages, pictures etc) over Bluetooth whenever in range. Like the Sony Ericsson range of Bluetooth watches which have a ‘proximity detector’ feature, the i-migo will also warn you when the phone moves out of range (in other words, it loses the Bluetooth connection). This warning means you are no longer close to your phone. Perhaps you’ve left it on a desk or someone else has walked off with it?
The main purpose of the i-migo is to prevent you losing your phone (by vibrating and flashing if the phone goes out of range). However, if you do lose your phone, all is not lost. Firstly, with the appropriate support from the handset, it will be possible to have the phone completely locked out - just like a car with keyless operation. That gives peace of mind that nobody else is going to be able to do much with your phone. After that, when you get a new phone, the data you would have otherwise lost can be restored by simply pairing the i-migo once more.

The i-migo sounds like an awesome gadget and I think it will be really useful for those of us who have a tendency for losing things (not naming any names ;)) The best bit is the ability is to completely lock down your phone, especially when your phone has some much valuable data about you.

Keep an eye on www.i-migo.com for more information!
